Red-light runner kills woman after west Phoenix crash, police say

A 33-year-old woman was making a left turn when police say a car slammed into her.

PHOENIX — A woman died on Wednesday after police say her SUV was hit by a red-light runner in west Phoenix.

The crash happened at the intersection of 43rd and Northern avenues around 11:15 a.m.

Adele Adwar Murad, 33, was making a left turn when a car ran the light and crashed into her, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The force of the impact flipped Murad’s SUV on its roof. Rescue crews had to pull her out of the SUV and rushed her to a hospital, but she later died.

The driver of the car that allegedly ran the light stayed at the scene. He was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.

He has not been identified.

No arrests have been made, but police say the investigation is still ongoing and charges could still be coming for the driver in the future.

DUI has been ruled out, according to police.
