APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — The eastbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway is closed in both directions at Country Club Drive in Mesa after a vehicle pursuit that started in Apache Junction, according to officials.

The call started when officers attempted to make a traffic stop for fictitious plates, police said. The vehicle did not stop and fled westbound.

The suspect hit a trooper vehicle at Dobson Road and Loop 202, police said. The suspect hit a second DPS trooper near Country Club Drive and that is where officers were able to make an arrest.

The trooper sustained minor injuries in the accident and the suspect was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Mesa police detectives recognized the driver as a suspect for an armed robbery case. The Mesa Police Department is taking the lead on the investigation.

This is a developing story.
