PHOENIX - The Arizona Coyotes announced they acquired Nick Schmaltz from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini.

Strome was selected third overall in 2015 after now all-stars Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel went first and second, respectively.

Last season, Strome played in 21 games and had four goals and five assists. The 21-year-old center has three goals and three assists in 20 games this season.

Perlini was the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, the left winger had 30 points in 74 games (17 goals, 13 assists). This year, Perlini has just two goals and four assists in 22 games.

Newly acquired Nick Schmaltz is also a product of the 2014 draft, selected 20th overall by the Blackhawks. The 22-year-old center played in 78 games last season and finished with 52 points (21 goals, 31 assists). This year, Schmaltz has two goals and nine assists in 23 games.

The trade comes after the Coyotes dropped two games in a row by four goals or more. The Coyotes are 3-6-2 in the month of November.
