The Sun Devil Football program announced Friday that it won't be traveling to Camp Tontozona for training camp this year.
The roadblock: completing the new playing surface in time for drills.
Recent rain in the Payson area has slowed down construction on the playing surface, according to a story published on SunDevils.com, as crews have struggled to level the ground evenly.
"We are disappointed the team will not be able to experience Camp T together this year but this further exemplifies the importance of constructing the synthetic playing surface," said Ray Anderson, Vice President for University Athletics.
First-year head coach Herm Edwards said they had to make a tough decision and put the health of their player's first.
ASU will hold all their 2018 preseason practices in Tempe, but plan to return to Camp T next year.
