PHOENIX - The Arizona sports world was shook yesterday when the Cardinals were blown out in their season opener and the Diamondbacks gave up six runs in the 9th inning and lost to the Atlanta Braves.

Then came news that star Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker needed hand surgery.

Booker signed a maximum 5-year, $158 million contract with the Suns just two months ago.

The Suns confirmed Monday that Booker underwent surgery and it was successful. The guard is supposed to be out for just six weeks. The 2018 season starts for the Suns on Oct. 17, about five and a half weeks away. So, Booker may miss the first couple games of the year.

According to the Suns, Booker's surgery was done on his right hand to repair the fifth metacarpophalangeal joint. He underwent surgery Monday at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

The Suns drafted Booker out of Kentucky with the 13th pick in 2015. In 2017, he led the Suns with 25 points per game and also averaged five assists and five rebounds.
