Kurt Russell says he was the pilot who reported the 'Phoenix Lights'

Was the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" star the first one to see the famed "Phoenix Lights"?

If you have spent any significant time in Phoenix over the past two decades, you've undoubtedly come across the story about the famed "Phoenix Lights."

On March 13, 1997, people across Arizona claimed to have seen strange lights making their way across the night sky over Phoenix.

Switchboards lit up as people from all over the Valley reported seeing the unidentified flying objects.

And one of those people appears to be actor Kurt Russell.

A recent interview with the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" star on BBC has surfaced online. In the YouTube video, Russell is seen describing his encounter with the mysterious lights.

“I was the pilot,” Russell said in the interview. “Oliver and I were flying in; I was flying him to go see his girlfriend. And we were on approach. I saw six lights over the airport in absolute uniform in a V-shape."

He continued his story and said he reported what he had seen as Chris Pratt, his co-star, listened next to him.

Russell said neither he nor Oliver mentioned or even thought of it again until two years later. The actor said he came home one day to Goldie Hawn watching a UFO show talking about the mysterious Phoenix event.

"It just went literally out of my head, had I not seen that show I would've never thought of it again." Russell said. "Now that to me was the weird part."

It's an incredible account of one of the most famous UFO sightings ever -- a story that even impressed Star-Lord himself.
