If you're looking for the No. 1 college town in the U.S., you won't have to travel too far to find it.

According to one website, at least.

After careful consideration from a team of "experts" and with so many college towns to choose from, Livability.com named Tempe as the best college town in America.

The website, which for the past almost three decades has worked with and researched communities and cities, is known for publishing lists ranking, among other things, the "bests of."

One of those lists: 10 Best College Towns

"While the term 'college town' may bring to mind solo cup-littered parties and riotous football games," Livability wrote, "there's far more to these youth-filled cities than tailgating and sports."

For this list, the site reviewed these places based on several factors: The population of 25- to 29-year-olds; the percentage of jobs in the education sector; local restaurants and bars; affordable housing; and diversity.

"The universities that reside in the towns on our 2016 list range from the elite and private to the huge and public. Each of them gives as much as they get from their communities," Livability wrote.

Tempe bested the likes of Fairfax, Virginia, home of George Mason University, Ann Arbor, Michigan, home of the University of Michigan, Cambridge, Massachusetts, home of both MIT and Harvard University, and Irvine, California, home of the University of California-Irvine for the top spot.

So why Tempe?

Two words: Sun Devils.

"The star for years of both Tempe’s cultural and business growth has been Arizona State University," the site wrote. "It also gives Tempe residents cultural and entertainment opportunities, like visiting its art and theater productions, or attending sporting events."

The site also praised the city for the outdoor and sporting activities available to residents.

And since Tempe sits so close to both Phoenix and Scottsdale, residents have access to a wide-range of employment, entertainment, dining and shopping opportunities.

Tempe was has also made the site's list of the "Top 100 Best Places to Live" twice and was named as having one of the "best downtowns" for 2016.

So congrats, Tempe and ASU. Here's just another accomplishment you can hold over your rivals down south.
