On the Mark: We must stop separating families seeking asylum

What are we doing separating children from their parents as they seek asylum?

I know we have an immigration problem in America. It isn’t something that happened overnight. It’s a problem that we have long neglected,Republicans and Democrats alike.

There’s plenty of blame to go around. But in some ways we created this problem ourselves. How?

Because when you live in a country where you worry about where or if your children can get medical care, whether or not your daughter will be raped by a corrupt cop or if your teenage son will be forced to either join a cartel or be butchered, America is like a shining beacon of hope. But only if you can get there, and only if she will open her arms to you.

That is why when I see the images of screaming terrified children being ripped from their mothers arms, it kills me.

It kills me because as an American, I know, deep in my heart, that is not what we do or who we are.

Yes we have a broken border, and yes we have a broken immigration system. But we have to stop separating children from their families while we figure this out.
