On the Mark: Roseanne, Samantha Bee remind us that words have consequences

Each week, Mark Curtis shares some of his thoughts on the biggest stories and reads comments from our viewers.

We live in an age where it’s important to be noticed. You can be loved, you can be hated, but you’d better be noticed.

Look at some of the stuff that posted on social media. "Notice me ... what I’m wearing, what I’m eating, where I’m living … and what I am saying."

So, with that culture permeating our society.. should we really be surprised when a woman calls another woman the “C” word? Or, that a comic like Roseanne compares a former Obama appointee to a monkey?

Maybe and maybe not.

And then to apologize or say “I crossed the line,” and think that those hurtful ugly words will simply go away? No!

Sometimes apologies aren’t enough. Sometimes, as adults, we have to own our words and the consequences that come with them.

Here is this week's “On the Mark.”
