On the Mark: How can we put a stop to hot car deaths?

Children dying after being left in hot cars is something we report on much too often. Is there something we could be doing to prevent these tragedies from ever happening again?

It has been a terrible week for children in the Valley. One was hit by a shotgun blast. Thankfully, she’ll make it. But another little girl wasn’t so lucky.

She was left in a hot car by her father, who ultimately made the grim discovery.

It’s a story we tell here in the Valley and across the country too often.

Can someone tell me why, in 2019, when we have artificial intelligence, fully electric cars, and men and women living in outer space, we can’t find a way to remind a parent that their child is strapped into a car seat in the back?

It can’t be that hard, and yet as I write this, there is no law, no mandate that car seat manufacturers have to make sure that parents are alerted if they leave a child in the car.

Here is this week's "On the Mark."
