On the Mark: Have we become numb to mass shootings?

Dozens of causes have seen change through action sparked by outrage over inequality. But where is the outrage over the latest school shooting?

I remember when we first heard the news: There had been a mass shooting at Columbine High School outside of Denver.

We were paralyzed, transfixed. How could this have happened? Kids bringing guns to school and shooting other kids.

It was unfathomable and dominated network coverage for days.

Then it happened again at Sandy Hook Elementary. Once again, we talked about it for days and offered up thoughts and prayers.

Nothing changed.

On and on it went—one mass shooting after another.

Now in the span of two weeks, we’ve had three mass shootings. One at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, then at a synagogue outside of San Diego and finally at another school outside of Denver.

These days there is hardly a blip on the networks, including my own. Sadly, the shootings have become so commonplace that they barely register.

Please tell me we haven’t become numb to these atrocities.

Here is this week's "On the Mark."
