On the Mark: Government shutdown is a no-win situation

In the end, nobody wins in this shutdown. Not the Republicans or the Democrats, and especially not those 800,000 who are just 'collateral damage.'

Is there an adult in the room? Anyone? I mean, we are talking about the lives of 800,000 federal workers who are in limbo while Republicans and Democrats dig in trying to plant their flag as the winner of this petty tug-of-war that is the government shutdown.

I know it isn’t the first and it will not be the last, but unlike other shutdowns, this time the players involved seem particularly uninterested in the lives of those they are impacting.

We see the president smirking, Nancy Pelosi smirking, Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell—all of them, smirking, convinced that they will win.

But in the end, nobody wins. Not the Republicans or the Democrats, and especially not those 800,000 who are just “collateral damage."

Sad. Especially when so much was made about “MAGA." Really? Are they really making America great again?
