Several neighbors in the Coronado District in Phoenix will gather Wednesday, March 14 on Pi Day to host a pie baking contest for a heartwarming cause, according to a release.

The pie baking contest will benefit a young girl named Harmony Mosier, 9, who has a rare cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma, her father Paul Mosier, said in an email. He said she was diagnosed when a tumor appeared behind her two front teeth at age 7 in 2016.

Paul said his daughter is feistyand is determined to live fully.

"Harmony currently has cancer in multiple locations besides the original tumor in her mouth, which itself has recurred twice. Her mouth is experiencing significant pain from the radiation that ended a few weeks ago, and possible, also from the surgery that followed," said Paul.

He mentioned that the community has supported his daughter's fight with cancer by hosting lemonade stands, art shows and even pizza grilling to help the family with finances.

"We've never had to feel alone, and the financial support has not only helped keep money worries at bay, but it has very recently made possible Harmony's entry in an out-of-state clinical trial where many expenses are not covered, including travel," said Paul.

Paul said that the Pi Day pie event is just another creative way that the community has demonstrated their love to help the Mosier family.

"Harmony's favorite pie is the whipped cream on top. She has enjoyed many varieties of pie, but especially pumpkin, as long as there is whipped cream on top, and preferably if you reload it as she eats it," said Paul.

He said his daughter lately has had a difficult time eating due to the pain in her mouth.

But Paul is happy his daughter keeps optimistic and has dreams in having two children, including adopting in the future.

The Pi/ Pie event for Harmony will be from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at 2333 North 14th Street, Phoenix, Arizona, 85006. If you plan in attending, there is a $10 suggested donation to come and enjoy the pie baking contest.
