PHOENIX - A trespassing suspect who was shot by an officer died Tuesday, police say.

The Phoenix Police Department says no officers were injured in a shooting near Central Avenue and Osborn Road Tuesday morning.

According to police, the incident started as trespasser call at the Extended Stay hotel in the area.

Officers tried to put the man into handcuffs when he resisted arrest and police say a physical confrontation ensued.

The suspect fled toward the Staples where, according to police, another officer thought the suspect had something in his hand. He felt threatened and fired a shot hitting the suspect.

The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
