Updated: Arizona’s Democratic primary results

NBC projected Joe Biden to win in Arizona.

PHOENIX — Polls closed for Arizona’s Democratic presidential primary at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

The frontrunners are former vice president Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders who were vying for the state’s 78 delegates.

Biden has surged ahead in the race to earn the Democratic nomination after wins in Florida and Illinois earlier in the day, and the race may be a must-win for Sanders.

Voter turnout: 42.91%

Biden – 231,447 votes

Sanders – 168,122 votes

The Republican Party is not holding a primary as President Donald Trump continues his bid for reelection.
