Phoenix reaches 100 degrees for first time in 2019

And so it begins.

PHOENIX — Phoenix officially hit 100 degrees for the first time in 2019 just after 2 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe fire crews used a big wheel to take a dehydrated hiker off of Camelback Mountain around 3:30 p.m. Firefighters said the hiker is in stable condition with a complaint of leg cramps.

The average first 100-degree day in Phoenix is May 2, NWS says. But we didn't break any records this time around.

NWS said the first 100-degree day of the year has come as early as March 16, as it did in 1988, and as late as June 18, which happened in 1913.

The record highest temperature for April 26 was 101 degrees in 1992. The forecasted high for Friday was also 101 degrees, but we stayed just shy of tying the record.

NWS said on average, Phoenix has 110 days of temperatures at or above 100 degrees.

As it heats up in the Valley, remember to keep yourself and your pets safe.
