Verify: Calls asking for personal info to pay for skipping jury duty are scams

The Cochise County Clerk of the Superior Court is warning residents after an uptick in these type of scam calls in the Arizona county.

PHOENIX — The Cochise County Clerk of the Superior Court is warning Arizona residents that phone calls asking for personal information to pay for fines after failing to appear for jury duty are scams.

The court says court officers would never call or email people asking for payment, a credit card, or social security number as consequences for failure to appear for jury duty. Residents should not give out any personal information over the phone.

According to the court, several jury duty scam calls have recently been reported.

The Cochise County Clerk of the Superior Court says if a person does fail to appear for jury service, this notice will be emailed to them:

“Dear Juror: Our records indicate that you were scheduled for jury service and you FAILED TO APPEAR. You must contact this office at the phone number below immediately. Failure to comply with this request may result in a fine. 520-432-8585.”

The court asks people to report suspicious phone calls to local law enforcement agencies.
