A 41-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a car while crossing the street against the signal in Phoenix late Thursday, police said.

The Phoenix Police Department said the woman attempted to cross Camelback Road at 16th Street around 9:40 p.m.

She was in the crosswalk but was walking against the signal when she was struck by a car that was driving eastbound on the roadway.

Phoenix Fire crews responded to the scene and took the woman to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The 24-year-old woman who struck her in the 2016 Hyundai Tucson had the green light and the other woman failed to yield, witnesses on scene told police.

The driver remained on the scene and showed no signs of impairment.

Police said there was evidence that the pedestrian was impaired.

The investigation is ongoing.
