SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - A woman faces a charge of first-degree murder after she told police she killed her mother at their Scottsdale apartment Monday, according to police.
Police said a resident at an apartment complex near Osborn Road and 64th Street called 911 around 2 p.m., telling the dispatcher her neighbor asked her to call. When pressed for information, she handed the phone to 46-year-old Holly Brennan, who allegedly told police she killed her mother.
Brennan told responding officers she killed her 79-year-old mother by smothering her with a pillow, police said.
The mother, Sharon Simmons, was found dead in a bedroom in the apartment they shared. Police said the two have lived together for several years.
Police said there have been domestic violence issues involving them in the past.
Neighbors told 12 News they could sometimes hear the mother and daughter arguing. They also said Simmons was a sweet, friendly woman, but they didn't like how Brennan treated her.
The investigation is ongoing.
