PHOENIX — A woman fell 150 feet when she lost her footing hiking Camelback Mountain Tuesday, rescue crews said.
The Phoenix Technical Rescue crew said the 29-year-old hiker dropped some gear and went off trail to retrieve it. She lost her balance and began sliding down the mountain. She landed on a small 5-6-foot ledge where they were able to rescue her using a helicopter.
She has a "severely injured ankle," the crew said.
The woman was hoisted down to crews on the ground and transported to a nearby hospital.
The Phoenix Fire Department urges everyone to stay on trail when hiking as it is better to replace lost equipment rather than risk injury.
