The chase ended when the suspect blew out a tire and went into a neighborhood near 29th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Police believe the suspect barricaded himself in an attic of a home in the area and refused to come out, so police sent the K9 in. Police said the suspect was found on top of Bane.

The exact cause of Bane's death is undetermined at this time.

The 3-year-old Belgian Malinois had served the Phoenix Police Department for a little over one year.

The Phoenix Police Department held a procession for the K9 officer shortly after he died.
