PHOENIX – If you pluck a gray hair, will more grow back? It's an old wives' tale.
We went to Gene Gaspar with National Hair Centers to verify.
“Your follicle is genetically programed to die at a certain point,” he said.
That includes graying.
It all comes down to your genes (thanks mom and dad!).
When you’re born, the color of each strand is predetermined to gray at some point in your life.
A study with the University of Delhi said when hairs start to gray, the strand of hair isn’t producing melanin, the pigment producing cell at the base of each hair follicle.
So that whole thing about pluck one gray hair and more will grow back, that claim is false.
