Valley photographers take free family portraits, participate in 'Front Porch Project'

It’s just a way for us to still interact with people that we care about in a way that respects social distancing," professional photographer Julie Griffin said.

PHOENIX — Photographers across the Valley are joining in on a national trend called the "Front Porch Project."

The project has caught the attention of photographers from states across the country, including Colorado, Ohio, and Massachusetts. The goal of the Front Porch Project is to capture beautiful family photos on the family's front porch while practicing safe social distancing.

"It’s just a way for us to still interact with people that we care about in a way that respects social distancing," Valley professional photographer Julie Griffin said. "The front porch project has kind of swept the nation."

The three photographers 12 News spoke to had taken the photos of 70 households combined. They also stated that they had done the photos completely free of charge, as the photographs in the movement are usually free or come at the cost of a small donation to charity.

"It's good to have a way to commemorate this crazy time and make some joy and just be silly," Griffin said.
