Transgender community reacts to CVS's apology after prescription denial

Those in the LGBTQ community say it's a step in the right direction, but sadly, the pharmacist's actions were not surprising.

FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. - CVS is apologizing for the actions of a pharmacist here in the Valley who refused to fill a hormone prescription for a transgender woman. That pharmacist was fired.

Meanwhile, those in the LGBTQ community say it’s a step in the right direction, but sadly the pharmacist’s actions were not surprising.

Chase Inderrinden is transgender and has been transitioning for seven months.

“So far what I have experienced is a lot of dirty looks and a lot of some people spitefully using the wrong pronouns,” Inderrinden said.

She talked to 12 News about the incident making headlines—a transgender woman describing how a pharmacists at this CVS in Fountain Hills refused to fill her prescription for hormones.

“Honestly I thought, kind of typical, it happens a lot,” said Inderrinden.

According to CVS, The pharmacist has since been fired. CVS said in part that the pharmacist's actions did not reflect the company’s values or commitment to inclusion.

“There’s a good portion of people who still think like that or along the lines of, it’s just not right in their eyes,” she said.

Meanwhile, Inderrinden has this message

“People recognize there are trans people out there, and it's a very normal thing. It’s just part of life,” she said.
