TEMPE, Ariz. - A former Tempe Municipal Court Judge pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in domestic violence case involving the stabbing of his wife.

Former judge Thomas Robinson was arrested in September after his wife called a police crisis line saying he stabbed her.

Weeks prior, Robinson's wife was admitted to a Chandler hospital with multiple stab wounds. At the time of the assault, Robinson and his wife told police she was attacked by an intruder.

According to police, Robinson eventually admitted to stabbing his wife multiple times out of anger.

Robinson also admitted to disposing of the knife and other evidence, police said.

Robinson was booked on 10 counts of aggravated assault and one count of tampering with evidence in September.

According to the city, Robinson had been serving as a municipal court judge hearing misdemeanor criminal cases since 2009. He was put on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, but filed for retirement effective the week after his arrest, according to city officials.

Robinson's sentencing is scheduled for May 30.
