Teen dies at hospital after being pulled from Lake Pleasant

The boy was pulled from the lake by bystanders, MCSO said.

A 16-year-old boy died Friday after he was pulled from Lake Pleasant and sent to the hospital in critical condition.

According to MCSO, the boy was at the lake with friends and went under while swimming. Two bystanders pulled him from the lake and began CPR, MCSO said.

One of those men was Greg Mingus, a CPR trainer for Recovery Empowerment Network in Phoenix. Mingus was vacationing at Lake Pleasant with family when he heard screams for help.

“The friend was actually pointing him out. He was saying, 'He's right there. He's right there.' There was another guy saying, 'He's right below me,'” Mingus said. “So you just kind of go into action mode.”

Mingus and others administered CPR until emergency personnel arrived.

Lake Patrol deputies and fire department personnel provided additional life-saving techniques when they arrived on the scene.

Peoria Medical-Fire said the boy was not breathing and had no heartbeat. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

MCSO said he later passed away at the hospital.
