Talking Stick Resort closing until Sunday for storm cleanup

The Arizona State Poker Championship has been canceled, the resort announced Monday.

Talking Stick Resort and Casino will be closed for the week after a Friday night storm knocked out power and caused plenty of damage to the resort.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from the resort's hotel early Saturday morning as rain from the storm caused flooding throughout the resort.

The resort will be closed until Sunday, Aug. 19 and the Arizona State Poker Championship has been canceled, the resort announced Monday. All other entertainment and gaming activities for the week are canceled or will be rescheduled, the release said.

If you have tickets for an event at the resort, call the box office at 480-850-7734 for information.

During the storm, the lights went out on the casino floor, and guests in the casino were not able to cash out their chips. Anyone left with chips can exchange them starting Monday at Casino Arizona, according to the Talking Stick Resort release. That also goes for slot machine players.

Anyone with questions about their slot play can call 480-850-7708.
