PHOENIX - A man is dead after being shot near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road early Sunday morning, Phoenix police said. The suspect fled the scene and police are searching.

Phoenix PD responded to a call of a shooting around 1:45 a.m. Sunday. They arrived to find that the victim, a man in his 40s who had a gunshot wound, crashed in his car at a gas station in the area.

Police said the victim and the suspect had exchanged gunfire in the parking lot of a convenience store.

The suspect fled the scene on foot. As the victim tried to leave in his car, he crashed at the gas station across the street.

The Phoenix Fire Department took the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not released any description of the suspect. The case is under investigation.
