GLENDALE, Ariz. - A suspect has died after an officer-involved shooting near 81st and Glendale avenues.
The officers involved in the shooting are OK, police say.
A spokesperson for Glendale police said a woman called and said she was being held against her will at an apartment complex Saturday. When officers arrived, they found a group of individuals in and around a vehicle outside the apartment where the call came from.
Police said the officers questioned the people and were patting them down for safety reasons when one man became agitated, started backing away from officers and reaching for his waistband.
A struggle ensued, with several police officers trying to detain the man as he continued to reach for his waistband, police said.
Officers said the suspect would not listen to commands, and proceeded to pull out a silver handgun.
One officer fired a shot, killing the suspect, according to police.
Police have arrested a woman, who was not the same woman who called in. Both the victim and the suspect in custody are believed to have some connection to the suspect who was shot and killed.
Police said there are no other suspects associated with the incident.
81st Avenue will be closed from Glendale Avenue to Ocotillo Road for several hours as police investigate. Police said the body camera footage of the incident will be reviewed.
