San Francisco Giants fan gets Gilbert HOA approval to paint home orange, black

The paint matches the Giants uniform in white with black and orange trim.

John Keith is not a baseball fan, he’s a San Francisco Giants fan.

“My children will be named after one of their players,” said Keith.

He likes baseball, but he loves the Giants. His house is not overrun with Giants paraphernalia but you can find plenty of jerseys, blankets, pillows and pictures of his favorite team.

“I’d kill for that team,” said Keith. His passion runs deep, real deep.

His first memories go back to Spring Training here in the Valley when he met Will Clark and Kevin Mitchell.

“I follow the Giants exclusively and it drives my neighbors crazy,” said Keith.

His fandom ramped up to the extreme when he decided to paint his house orange and black. The plan sounded fun but there was a little matter of getting it cleared with his HOA.

“All they can say is no,” said Keith.

So the die-hard Giants fan contacted a painter and gathered some swatches and designs to submit to the HOA board.

What happened next is probably a surprise to many: the board gave Keith the green light.

“I did not think there was a chance,” said Keith.

His house now has an orange door with bright orange pop-outs and black trim.

“It’s awesome, the colors match the uniform exactly,” said Keith.

Most of his neighbors like the house, but one neighbor, Jacob Johns is not a fan. Johns is a Dodgers fan.

"Obviously there were no Dodgers fans on the committee,” Johns said. “Gilbert Police say I’m not allowed to call anymore, it’s not in their jurisdiction."

Johns is now threatening to paint his house Dodger blue.

“I literally told him I would burn it down if he does,” said Keith.

For now both houses are standing, one Giant orange and black, the other HOA-sanctioned light brown and white, but for how much longer is anyone’s guess.
