PHOENIX - A Phoenix PD officer shot and killed a robbery suspect near 12th Street and Northern Avenue late Friday morning.
The suspect, who officials have not yet identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, Phoenix fire officials said.
Paramedics got the call about 11:30 a.m. and found the suspect on a canal bike path a few blocks south of the reported robbery scene, near 12th Street and Wagon Wheel Drive.
Police were responding to a report of a robbery at a nearby 99 Cents Only store where the suspect was allegedly putting items into his pockets. An employee confronted the man and that's when police say the suspect threatened the employee with a knife and left the store.
Officers were able to obtain a description of the suspect and located a man matching that description a few blocks south of the store.
Officers tried to stun the suspect, but police say the suspect covered himself with a blanket before one officer fired at him.
No officers were injured, a Phoenix police spokesperson said.
