Police involved in shooting on I-10 at 43rd Ave after bank robbery chase

Goodyear police said the bank robbery suspect was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

Officers pursued a bank robbery suspect south on Interstate 17 from north Phoenix into the downtown area Monday afternoon before a police shooting on I-10 at 43rd Avenue.

A Phoenix Police Department spokesperson said no officers were injured, but the shooting involved Goodyear officers.

Goodyear police said the suspect was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

Phoenix police will take over the investigation of the police shooting, in which three Goodyear police officers were involved, Goodyear police said.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said that it was helping the Goodyear Police Department in stopping the suspect. Goodyear PD said the pursuit was due to the robbery of a Chase bank on Litchfield Road in Goodyear.

Near Camelback Road, officers successfully blew out one of the SUV's tires with spike strips.

The SUV they were chasing continued on its rims before exiting I-17 onto I-10 westbound around 5 p.m.

DPS shut down I-10 in both directions at 43rd Avenue in relation to the situation. Dozens of police cars responded to the area along I-10.

The eastbound lanes of I-10 reopened around 7:30 p.m. The westbound lanes reopened early in the morning Tuesday.
