Phoenix police officer critically injured in crash

The officer is in critical but stable condition and the other driver and passenger have minor injuries.

PHOENIX - An officer is in critical condition after a crash on Cave Creek Road south of Carefree Highway. Police said the officer was on duty at the time of the crash.

According to police, the officer exited the driveway at the Black Mountain Precinct around 11:30 a.m. As 53-year-old Sean George went southbound on Cave Creek Road, the officer's car collided with a car going northbound.

The officer, a 26-year veteran of the force, is in critical but stable condition and remains hospitalized, police said.

The other driver and passenger sustained minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. Police said impairment does not appear to be a factor at this time.
