Police chase on I-17 ends with Flagstaff man doing push-ups at Phoenix gas station

Arizona DPS said Jessie Riggs, 34, was booked into jail on several charges including aggravated DUI and assault.

PHOENIX — A Flagstaff man was arrested Tuesday following a police chase on southbound Interstate 17 after 911 calls reported he was driving recklessly.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the man, identified Wednesday as 34-year-old Jessie Riggs of Flagstaff, was reported speeding in a red SUV southbound on I-17 near SR 69 around 2 p.m Tuesday.

Riggs nearly caused a crash as he was tailgating, driving all over the road and making rude gestures, DPS said.

A state trooper saw Riggs driving 100 mph south of Black Canyon City and attempted to stop him but he kept going. That's when the chase began.

According to DPS, one trooper witnessed Riggs drinking what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage during the pursuit.

Phoenix police successfully deployed spike strips on I-17 at Pinnacle Peak Road.

Riggs continued to travel with disabled tires until exiting the interstate at Thunderbird Road.

Police followed Riggs into a QT gas station where he got out of the vehicle and began to do push-ups. He was taken into custody shortly after.

Riggs was booked on several charges including unlawful flight from pursuing officer, aggravated DUI, aggravated assault and criminal damage.

Sky 12 was on scene to capture the end of the pursuit.
