Phoenix firefighter/Arizona National Guardsman laid to rest

Phoenix Fire Department and Arizona National Guard Captain Juston Doherty died suddenly 2 weeks ago, but friends and family say his legacy will live on for a long time to come.

PEORIA, Ariz. - It was more than just a final farewell for Phoenix firefighter Juston Doherty. It was a celebration of his life.

His family, friends, and colleagues all shared what an incredible person Doherty was in a touching ceremony at Christ Church of the Valley in Peoria Tuesday morning.

Remembered as committed, heroic, and a fearless Army captain, this 15-year Phoenix Fire Department veteran was always up for a challenge.

The army captain served in Iraq and Afghanistan—earning a Bronze Star and other medals. As a veteran firefighter, he was awarded the department’s Medal of Valor.

This highly decorated soldier and firefighter was laid to rest at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix.

Doherty passed away almost two weeks ago in his sleeping quarters at the Arizona Army National Guard base, while serving his weekend drill as a platoon trainer.

Doherty was 46 years old, and his closest friends say he will forever be remembered for his big personality and desire to serve.
