For the third straight day, Phoenix has hit a record temperature.

The high temperature at Sky Harbor reached 116 degrees Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. That sets the temperature record for July 25 in Phoenix.

The previous record for July 25 was 115 degrees, set back in 1943.

Monday's high was also 115 degrees, while Phoenix reached 116 degrees Tuesday, making it the hottest day of the year so far.

FORECAST: 7-day forecast

The Phoenix area is under an excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Thursday is expected to bring some form of relief as the projected high temperature is 109 degrees.
