Here's where you can get free booties to protect pets from the Phoenix heat

Summer is here and the heat is on high.

Everyone should be cautious of the heat and don't forget about protecting your furry friends too.

The "Cause for Paws" wants to keep dogs safe during the hot months by giving away free booties at PetSmart locations throughout the Valley in June, July and August.

Here's when and where you can grab a free set of dog booties

June 29: Petsmart Deer Valley at 2901 W Agua Fria Fwy Phoenix, AZ 85027

July 13: Petsmart at 10825 N Tatum Blvd Phoenix, AZ 85028

July 20: Petsmart at 1140 W Elliot Rd Tempe, AZ 85284

August 17: Petsmart Deer Valley at 2901 W Agua Fria Fwy Phoenix, AZ 85027

August 24: Petsmart Chandler at 2840 W Chandler Blvd Chandler, AZ 85224

Each event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There's a one-set limit per household, per event while supplies last.

Protecting your pups

When the temperatures reach 104°, the sidewalk is at 149° and the pavement is at 162°, according to Cause for Paws.

A dog’s paws burn after 5 minutes on a 120° surface and after one minute on a 140° surface.

A 150° surface can cause permanent damage to your dog's paws, a spokesperson for the cause said.
