GUADALUPE, Ariz. - The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has identified the man shot and arrested by officers after a chase and reported shooting in Guadalupe Wednesday.

Jason Sanchez-Vasquez, 36, is in critical condition at the Maricopa County Medical Center, according to a release from MCSO, which added Sanchez-Vasquez shot a gun from a stolen vehicle during the chase.

Police believe he stole two vehicles after the reported shooting near Avendia del Yaqui and Calle San Angelo just before noon Wednesday.

The release said Sanchez-Vasquez rammed a MCSO vehicle on the scene and got out of the stolen vehicle, continuing to shoot. That's when deputies, after telling him to surrender, shot him, according to the release. He was taken to the hospital.

MCSO said in the release that Sanchez-Vasquez has prior felony convictions including weapons charges and has served time in Arizona prison.

The involved deputies are on paid administrative leave, the release said.

Wednesday, MCSO said it had arrested another person at a house nearby, but that person was not identified in the release.
