PHOENIX — A light rail train hit a man in downtown Phoenix Wednesday morning, trapping him under the train car.
Firefighters were able to pull the 54-year-old man from underneath the train near 1st Avenue and Van Buren Street and take him to a nearby trauma center as an immediate patient.
He is in critical condition but is expected to survive, a Phoenix Police Department spokesperson said.
Police and witnesses said it appeared the man tripped in front of the train as it was pulling into a station.
Light rail service will be delayed in the area while police work.
