GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Police responded to an apartment complex in Glendale Thursday morning after a man woke up to the sound of gunfire and then was struck by a bullet.

Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies were called around 5:30 a.m. to the Desert Garden Apartments on the southwest corner of Dysart Road and Glendale Avenue.

They found a man who said he woke up to the sound of gunfire and then was struck by a bullet, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. MCSO is investigating.
