PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating after officials say human remains were found in a desert area in north Phoenix.

Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez with MCSO said Saturday morning the remains were found near 11th Street and Alameda Road, which is just north of Pinnacle Peak Road.

MCSO said a man was walking through the desert Friday around 7:30 p.m. when they spotted the remains.

When detectives were searching the area Saturday, they found more evidence of human remains and sent them to the Medical Examiner's Office.

At this time, it is unknown if the remains are of a male or a female, MCSO said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Officials did not release any more details about the incident.
