Heavy rain in the High Country, scattered showers in the Valley on Sunday

Rain drenched Flagstaff and the slow moving storms are making their way south.

The chances for scattered showers in the Valley continued for Sunday. Cloudy skies covered much of the Phoenix area throughout the day as the threat of rain was possible.

According to the National Weather Service, the Phoenix area barely reached 90 degrees at 11 a.m. Around noon, isolated showers were spotted in various locations in Maricopa County, but the Valley is still keeping an eye out for heavy rainfall later in the afternoon.

Heavier rainfall was found in the High Country during the early afternoon hours. ADOT shared a photo of heavy rainfall near I-17 south of Flagstaff.

The NWS issued a Flood Advisory for the Flagstaff area near Ash Fork around 2 p.m. Slow moving storms created conditions for urban and small-stream flooding.

The storm up north was moving slowly which caused flooding in the Flagstaff area Sunday afternoon.

5:16 p.m.

Weather is starting to creep into Maricopa County. NWS says the radar is tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Yarnell to near Wagoner. Wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with these storms.

Surprise, Wickenburg, Wittmann, Circle City, Lake Pleasant, Morristown, Vistancia and Anthem may be impacted by this storm.

4:47 p.m.

The American Red Cross has opened a shelter in Flagstaff after the area was hit with a strong storm, causing flooding. The Red Cross says some homes are being threatened by the flooding.

4:15 p.m.

Storms are moving south. Heavy rainfall from slow moving storms has created conditions for urban roadway and small stream flooding in Cordes Junction, Bumble Bee, Spring Valley and I-17 between Cordes Junction and Black Canyon City, NWS says.

3:46 p.m.

There is over three feet of water traveling down the Fain Lake spillway in Prescott, NWS says. The area is under flash flood conditions until 6:45 p.m.

3:30 p.m.

NWS says an estimated 1.5 to 2.5 inches fell in an hour in Flagstaff.
