Glendale PD: Teen fought off suspect in attempted kidnapping

The girl was loading something into her mother's vehicle near 65th and Maryland avenues on May 7 when she was grabbed and dragged away by a man, police say.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Glendale police are urging anyone who may have seen something to contact the department after they say a man attempted to kidnap a 15-year-old girl during the day.

According to the police, the attempted kidnapping happened on Tuesday, May 7 at 11 a.m. A 15-year-old girl was loading something into her mother's vehicle outside their apartment near 65th and Maryland avenues when she was approached by a man.

Police say that man grabbed the girl from behind and dragged her into a nearby alley. He told the girl to “shut up, or I will kill you,” according to police.

The girl was able to kick and fight off the suspect, police say, and escaped his grasp. She ran home and called 911.

Police say the suspect fled in an unknown direction. He was last seen wearing a short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans with a hole in the knee.

Police say the man has a scar on the upper right part of his forehead and his left eyebrow is partly shaved.
