The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Wednesday a $7.2 million infrastructure grant for Sky Harbor.
The money, according to a release, will go toward reconstruction on the area where planes park, load and unload passengers, also known as the apron.
“If you want a strong transportation system, you have to invest in airport infrastructure,” Elaine Chao, secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, said in a release. “Airports are the backbone of aviation. These communities are going to reap greater safety, efficiency, and economic dividends for years to come.”
The grant is part of the $677 million the Federal Aviation Administration will award for airport infrastructure across the country, according to a release.
