Family remembers teen killed in Phoenix crash, finds her engagement ring at crash site

"We just came to feel her. To pray and say our goodbyes," Rayonna Tejeda said.

PHOENIX — Rayonna Tejeda and Chardae Todd didn't know where else to go Sunday evening.

"We just came to feel her. To pray and say our goodbyes," Tejeda said.

The two were just trying to take it all in, at 23rd Ave and Dunlap where investigators say a vehicle crossed over the center line, and killed their aunt Chayanne Chibeast and her fiancé Makayla.

"She would always tell me, 'Chardae you're my bestest friend.' I was would, 'Chay, you're my bestest friend too.'" Todd said as tears rolled down her face.

The driver of the car, which crossed the center line, is a 16-year-old boy. Investigators say impairment might have been a factor in the collision. The tragedy ended a love story in the making. Chyanne and Makayla had been engaged just three months.

"I'm really glad they went together because if it would have been one of them - it would have been their whole world crashed down," Tejeda said.

Finding comfort in a tragic moment, while literally finding something else. Tejeda found Chyanne's engagement ring at the scene while running her hands through the dirt.

"Think this was God's way of saying goodbye to us. Giving us this ring. Glad we found it," Tejeda said.

A symbol of eternal love. A life together - through good times, and bad.
