Dolphin dies at Dolphinaris Arizona from rare muscle disease, company says

The company said the male bottlenose dolphin received constant veterinary care and the team even consulted with experts in the United States and Europe in hopes of discovering a cure.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Dolphinaris Arizona released a statement Friday confirming one of its male bottlenose dolphins had passed away.

The company said it was "deeply saddened" by the passing of Bodie on Sept. 23.

According to Dolphinaris Arizona, Bodie was experiencing a rare muscle disease. The company said he received constant veterinary care and the team even consulted with experts in the United States and Europe in hopes of discovering a cure. No solution was found.

The company said a medical examination on Bodie confirmed there was nothing that could have been done to prevent his death.

"During this difficult time, Dolphinaris Arizona will continue its mission to educate, inspire and empower our guests through interactions with these amazing animals, encouraging guests to become stewards of the oceans and its inhabitants," the company said in a release.
