PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Attorney's Office has some tips for those Valley residents who are swiping for love ahead of Valentine's Day.

As part of the MCAO's #SwipeSafe campaign, the department is encouraging people to take some time to search the Arizona Judicial Branch's public access court case database.

All you need to look up someone's court cases is their name. From there you can sift through the cases and if you have a general idea of their age, it should be pretty easy to determine if it is your match.

In a recent survey of 2,000 Americans who use online dating services, 88 percent of them said they research their matches online. That same study says that women are more interested in finding criminal history than men. (Safe thinking, ladies!)

Other safe dating tips from MCAO include meeting in public, telling someone the details of your date and limiting your alcohol intake.

Obviously, just because someone has a run-in with the law doesn't automatically make them a bad person but it is nice to know as much as you can before meeting an online match in person.
