CHANDLER, Ariz. - An East Valley baseball coach is accused of molesting children between the ages of 11-14 years old, Chandler police said.
Richard Allen Gallegos, 53, was arrested Tuesday for alleged incidents that happened between 2009 and early 2011, according to the Chandler Police Department. At that time, Gallegos was coaching a club baseball team in Ahwatukee and volunteered as a baseball coach at Seton Catholic Preparatory.
The Catholic Diocese of Phoenix released a statement Wednesday saying the police have no reason to believe the crimes were committed at the school. The statement also said the diocese and the school are cooperating with the investigation.
Gallegos has club baseball ties in the East Valley and Phoenix, according to police. He became the subject of a Chandler police investigation in 2009 for his alleged behavior toward children but detectives did not have enough evidence to charge Gallegos with a crime.
Last month, two former players from an East Valley club team came forward and told police of sexual encounters with Gallegos.
Investigators are still determining if Gallegos continued to coach baseball after 2011.
Gallegos was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on three counts of molestation of a child, five counts of sexual conduct of a minor and two counts of attempted sexual conduct with a minor.
