Cell phone video shows a new perspective of police shooting in Phoenix Tuesday

The video shows police shooting at a man near Central Avenue and Osborn Road Tuesday morning.

PHOENIX - Cell phone video from a witness shows a different perspective of events that led up to police shooting a trespassing suspect Tuesday. The man died Tuesday, police say.

Police identified the man as 34-year-old Alexandre J. Aldrich on Wednesday.

The Phoenix Police Department says officers were called to the Extended Stay hotel in the area of Central Avenue and Osborn Road Tuesday morning.

Officers tried to put Aldrich into handcuffs when he resisted arrest and police say a physical confrontation ensued, police say.

Aldrich fled toward the Staples where, according to police, another officer thought the suspect had something in his hand. He felt threatened and fired a shot hitting the suspect.

Cell phone video by Patrick McGee shows an officer walking next to a man. The officer gets behind the man on the sidewalk, then the man turns to face the officer with his arm raised. The man turns his back on the officer as the officer raises his weapon. A gunshot is heard.

The video below shows the officer and the man walking. We edited it to not show the shot being fired, due to the upsetting nature of the video.

The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
