SHOW LOW, Ariz. - The Cedar Fire has grown in size to 12,140 acres, according to Navajo County officials.

Adam Wolfe, the communications manager for the county, said firefighters have officially reached 40 percent containment, largely on the northeast side of the fire.

There are about 650 firefighters working on the fire.

Wolfe emphasized that the growth of the fire was largely due to strategic burnouts performed by firefighters to control the blaze.

Today they'll work to expand containment.

As for residents in the area, Wolfe warned not to get too complacent.

"We still want them to be prepared," Wolfe said. "If they have medication, if they have family members, make sure everything that is important can be put in cars and moved."
